Be Sure To Find Out Your Travel Insurance Coverage When Overseas

Traveling outside of the United States is something most people would like to do at one time in their life, and getting insurance to travel outside of the country is much more important than we realize.   The first misconception that most people have is that the medical insurance they have will be sufficient, so they don’t bother looking for a travel insurance policy.  You should be aware that having medical insurance cannot help you once you travel out of the country.

In fact, those who are currently receiving coverage through Medicaid are not covered either and must purchase a separate policy for travel.  Medical Evacuation back to the US may not even be covered even with those companies that cover for what they call reasonable costs.  This is extremely expensive nearing running around $10,000.  Be sure to read the fine print of your cheap travel insurance policy.

This is fully realized by our citizens when going to hospitals and doctors in foreign countries.  In most cases they would ask to be paid in cash and so billing here in the US is not a possibility. They may not even treat you at all if you don’t have any kind of travel insurance.  That can leave you in a bad situation if you really need to get medical attention while you are traveling abroad.  In a country that practices socialized medicine, they may not give you medical treatment for the reason that you are not a resident of their country.  Even if you are traveling just to go skiing, you can get skiing travel insurance.

Hospital services when traveling abroad are also supposed to be paid in full while you are there, and most countries will actually require that you carry some form of travelers or accident insurance with you.  So, make sure you talk to your current healthcare provide to be absolutely certain as to whether or not they will provide you with coverage while traveling out of the country, and what is a part of that policy.
