Useful Info On Vacations In Stranraer, Dumfries & Galloway
The country of Scotland is a good destination in which to take a couple of weeks vacation. Scotland is suitable for a massive list of different types of vacation, with extensive expanses of captivating countryside with useful amounts of sites of outstanding natural beauty (perfect for hill-walkers, hikers, ramblers, mountain climbers and the likes). Scotland also features some of the most excellent attractions, including, some of the greatest galleries and museums in the United Kingdom, majestic beauty spots, historical buildings, country houses, castles and fortified houses plus a great deal more. In the article below I talk about the port of Stranraer.
The town of Stranraer is situated in the south of Scotland in Dumfries and Galloway, the port is widely known for it being where people can catch a ferry to Northern Ireland. Unfortunately the larger number of tourists fail to see some of the tourist attractions in and around the town. This fact is something of a puzzle, if you arrive at the port, and reserve yourself a room in a bed & breakfast in Stranraer, a day earlier you can visit a few of the tourist attractions before embarking to Northern Ireland.
There are a couple of things to see and do in Stranraer including the medieval tower house of the Castle of St John found in the centre of Stranraer. St John’s was built at the very beginning of the sixteenth century as a residence for Ninian Adair of Kilhurst (the Laird of Wigtownshire). The structure underwent renovation, in nineteen eighty eight/eighty nine, by the district council of Wigtown who opened it to the public in nineteen ninety.
Another tourist attraction close to the town is Castle Kennedy Gardens. The castle is the centrepiece of the garden which are located on a hill between two lochs (unfortunately you are no longer allowed to visit the ruined castle. Castle Kennedy’s landscape Gardens extend across 75 acres. It is possible to buy plants from the shop which has grown them from plants and seed from the garden.
Another exquisite visitor attraction worth visiting is Glenluce Abbey. Even though the abbey is ruined (actually the most ruinous of three of monasteries found in the south westerly part of Scotland) it features a spectacular fifteenth-century Chapter House. Other places worth visiting include, Portpatrick, the Machars, the Mull of Galloway and Port Logan.
